Science

I am a Mechanical/Aerospace/Controls/Microelectromechanical Systems engineer.  I love science, and have spent a lifetime gaining a broadbase in all the basics: chemistry, physics, and biology, as well as specifics in the engineering specialties I mentioned.

I have been doing research lately on wings for Micro Air Vehicles.  The doctoral candidate I am working with has proposed a way to control MAV flight, and needs a workable wing.  I have proposed making one out of Titanium, based on a Caltech paper, using masking and etching methods generally used in fabricating Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS).

In short, what that means is that I mask the titanium and etch away anything that doesn't look like my wing.  I am happy with the results.  If the titanium is the right thickness and the structural members are designed right, it should have properties similar to a natural flapping wing.  I have some work left before I can verify those results, though.
